Pitch In For Parks

Sunday, April 17th is Pitch In For Parks day (general cleanup). Captains stationed at key locations will distribute trash bags, gloves, loppers, etc.

For vinecutters it is the last day of the season and a chance to recruit members for next year. Find two new members or hand out fliers. We'll send you some if you need them. In any case refer people to vinecutter.com

The 2005 schedule is posted on the Web site at http://www.vinecutter.com/schedule.htm . Our first date is
November 6th, 2005 at Crestwood station.

Progress
The methods work. Based on this first year we think we can have the vine problem on our 13 mile stretch under control within 5 years. We will need the help of Metro North and the highway department. We need to increase our numbers from 80 to about 400.

FYI: This year we went from 10 to 80 people and we get contributions and moral support from many others.

Thanks to Westchester County Department of Parks & Recreation
This project is made possible by Joe Stout, Bob Baker, Bob Del Torto, Jeff Main and many others.

Patches
We will be awarding nifty vinecutter patches to all of you on November 3rd & November 17th so drop by if you can.

Systems
We need help institutionalizing our methods so we can export them to other areas.

Research
We would like to encourage research studies of Asiatic Bittersweet. Contact us if you are involved in research. We may be able to help.

Who We Are
We are Westchester County Parks & Recreation volunteers operating under the supervision of Volunteer Coordinator Bob Del Torto and Commissioner of Parks & Recreation Joe Stout.

We are a project of The Bronx River Conservancy, a membership organization formed in 1997 that has quietly done a great deal to protect and improve The Bronx River Parkway Reservation "The Central Park of Westchester County."
